In the vicinity, an elderly resident Abbas Hassouna explained that his household were anticipating a formal proclamation and dependable pledges for border access, bringing in food, and stopping the killing, destruction and exile”.

“After witnessing these changes, only then will we truly believe them. However currently, apprehension persists. Parties might renege suddenly or break the agreement like previous instances leaving us trapped within the perpetual loop with nothing changing just further agony,” Hassouna expressed, a native of Gaza’s north yet has experienced relocation repeatedly.

Conflicting Feelings Among Inhabitants

Ola al-Nazli, 47 said she had learned regarding the peace deal via local residents within the al-Mawasi district. “I felt confused regarding my reaction, if I should celebrate or sad. “People reside in tents that fail to safeguard against low temperatures or amid explosions. People possessing resources or work were stripped of all assets. This explains why our happiness is accompanied by agony and dread. I only hope that we may reside protected, away from detonations, not be forced to move, and that the crossings will be accessible quickly,” said Nazli.

“My primary concern above all else is the lack of security. Starvation is tolerable, however danger represents the actual calamity. I am concerned that the territory might become a place of chaos controlled by criminal groups and paramilitary organizations rather than proper governance.”
