Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Attack Succumbs to Injuries

A woman stabbed repeatedly in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The victim, who was 34, came under attack in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, 21, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, facing charges for the attack.

Originally charged of attempted murder however after the woman's death the charge has been updated to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

Authorities stated officers would be around the city centre through Monday providing public assurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.

Investigators are requesting for witnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, trainers and rucksack.

Attack Site Details

The knife attack occurred near the Bullring shopping centre, across from primary access point of New Street railway station.

Police said they classified it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response after completing her work period around 10 PM on Friday.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"Many co-workers use transit services, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."

Another individual, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently to see his girlfriend resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.

"It causes concern about my partner," he said.

"She lacks transportation and works at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
