Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to provide any compensation.
